Dealmaster: A handful of good Prime Day deals are still available today

Ars Technica

Greetings, Arsians! Just when the Dealmaster thinks Prime Day is over, the deals pull him back in. Today, we’re bringing you a roundup of (mostly) leftover deals that are still live from Amazon’s technically-expired sales event and the various sales other retailers ran alongside it.

While the vast majority of Prime Day’s better offers have drifted away—and while the majority of Prime Day’s offers as a whole were middling—there are a handful of worthwhile discounts that are still kicking, including offers on a bunch of board games we like, the latest Apple AirPods, a handful of laptops and headphones, and game consoles like the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One S. Best of all, you don’t need to be a Prime member to take advantage of the majority of them.

We’ll delve into more detail for a couple of particular highlights below, where you can check out the rest of the rundown.

Top 10 deals of the day

Ars Technica

  • Splendor board game for $23.76 at Amazon (normally $35.99).

There are a handful of Ars-approved board games still discounted from Prime Day below, but let’s give a special shoutout to “engine-building” game Splendor. It’s about five years old now, but it remains a fun yet easily accessible game for families or inexperienced board game players. It also goes by quick, with a typical game lasting around 30 minutes. As we said when we recommended it in our ultimate board game gift guide last year: “If your giftee doesn’t know the first thing about board games, start here.” At $24, it’s about $7-10 off where we usually see it.

If you’re looking to buy a gaming monitor on the cheap, ViewSonic’s XG2402 is a safe bet. It’s a 24-inch 1080p TN panel, so while its color accuracy is solid, its contrast and viewing angles are a noticeable step down from a good VA or IPS panel. But if you play lots of shooters or fast-paced games on the PC, the XG2402 helps make up for those shortcomings with a 144Hz refresh rate, FreeSync support with a 48-144Hz range, and spectacular motion performance with very little motion blur. It has a DisplayPort 1.2 port, two HDMI 1.4 ports, and 2 USB 3.0 ports as well. Its current $200 price is a new low and about $30 off its normal price.

  • Apple AirPods (latest model) with Wireless Charging Case for $169.99 at Amazon (normally $199).
  • Instant Pot Duo 60 6-Qt 7-in-1 electric pressure cooker for $49.99 at Walmart and Amazon (normally $74.99).

  • Samsung T5 (500GB) portable external SSD for $79.99 at Amazon (normally $87.99).

We’ve recommended the Samsung T5 at various points in the past, but in short, it remains a fast and highly portable way to stash and transfer files on the go. A good portable HDD can still serve who don’t have to frequently larger files, but an SSD like the T5 will generally be more durable over time. Currently at $80, this is an all-time low and about $8 off where it’s been the last couple of months.
